Government Grants
National Solar Schools Program (NSSP)
The National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) is a federal government grant program offering eligible schools the opportunity to apply for funding of up to $50,000 to install solar power systems (and a range of other renewable energy/energy efficient/water saving measures).
Since the program commenced in July 2008, over 4,600 schools have been awarded a grant (of the 8,000+ eligible schools that applied).
There is only one more funding round, the 2012-13 round, remaining.
Applications for the final round close on Friday 18th May.
Schools that were unsuccessful in the 2011-12 funding round are encouraged to re-apply.
Become a solar school
To apply for a grant of up to $50,000, your school must install a minimum 2kW solar power system. However, you can choose to include a larger size solar power system in your application. (Be inspired by this Channel 7 Sunrise video of our work with solar school Moreton Bay College in QLD, who installed a 7.7kW system.) We can custom-design a system to suit your school's needs.
Other energy efficient measures you may like to include as part of your grant package include:
- Energy efficient lighting
- Ceiling fans
- Motion sensors
To help you with planning your application, our trained energy saving consultants are available to visit your school to perform an energy saving assessment. We can access your current lighting and energy usage and provide a detailed plan of how your school can lead the community and become more environmentally friendly. We are here to work with you and your school's needs to design a NSSP plan to give you maximum return. We also have a dedicated solar customer service team that can assist you with the NSSP application process.
